Clear PVC sheets

Unplasticised polyvinyl chloride (PVC-u or UPVC) is one of the most widely used thermoplastic materials for pipe installations.

All of our industrial PVC (PVCU / UPVC) pressure pipe is supplied in a mid to dark grey colour and is WRAS approved for drinking water. As such, it is suitable for connecting to mains water supply and can be used to convey potable water, it is also suitable for conveying many other process fluids.

Our PVC pressure pipe is specified to operate at temperatures between 0 and 60° Celsius (32 - 140° Fahrenheit). Please be aware that PVC becomes more prone to impact damage at lower temperatures, and it is recommended that if there is an impact risk at operational temperatures of below 5° Centigrade (41° Fahrenheit), then ABS pipe should be considered as an alternative.

We hold general stocks of UPVC pipe in both metric and imperial, please see below for our list of generally stocked diameters, lengths and pressure ratings. We hold stocks of different brands, if you require a specific brand please let us know when requesting a quote.

Technical & Properties

UPVC PRESSURE PIPE

UV Resistance

All standard UPVC pipe is prone to white blooming and discolouration with prolonged exposure to UV rays, this generally does not affect the integrity of the pipe and its functionality does not degrade solely from exposure to the amount of UV experienced with normal daylight in the UK.

Chemical Resistance

In general PVC pipe is resistant to most solutions of acids, alkalis, salts and organic compounds miscible with water. PVC pipe is not resistant to solvents, aromatics and some chlorinated hydrocarbons. Not recommended for compressed air or gases. For data on resistance of UPVC pipe to specific chemicals, please speak to us: 0161 655 4298.

Other Properties

Excellent chemical resistance and dielectric properties, good tensile, flexural and mechanical strength, low moisture absorption, excellent dimensional stability and good flammability characteristics.

Installation

PVC Solvent Cement

UPVC Pressure pipe is intended to go inside any fittings, so ends are not flared and are supplied plain (without thread).  The fittings and pipe are to be connected by means of a PVC solvent cement to create a leak-free and pressure resistant joint.  Threaded fittings can be solvent welded on to the pipe which facilitates the connection of other threaded parts and components.

Class T (Class 7) pipe is designed to be threaded, to accept backnuts and other threaded components. We will supply Class T pipe unthreaded for you to apply any threads as needed. We can thread pipe as requested, for which there will be associated labour costs.

Imperial pipe is measured & referenced by the Nominal Bore which is expressed in inches.

Imperial pipe is offered in classes which would indicate the different pressure ratings.
